An enterprising partnership
1st November 2010
AN award-winning social enterprise business has linked-up with one of the UK’s leading Building Regulations Approved Inspectors for an innovative partnership.
Viewpoint is a pioneering telephone research service specialising in customer satisfaction surveys with a core mission to provide fulfilling employment for people living with a disability or other disadvantage.
Regional Building Control (RBC) has committed to an on-going collaboration with Viewpoint to support the company’s social objectives. The two businesses will trade expertise, ideas and resources to enhance their service to the construction industry.
RBC is a national Building Regulations Approved Inspector, which carries out the full functions of Building Control.
Chris Edden, director at RBC, says: “We’re delighted to be collaborating with Viewpoint and we are looking forward to a long and fruitful partnership.
“Viewpoint’s professional service and experience in the construction industry first attracted our attention. It was a bonus to learn of its valuable social enterprise goal, which encouraged us to adopt a more meaningful and long term relationship.”
Viewpoint is currently reviewing RBC’s customer satisfaction surveys and will introduce processes to help RBC gain important feedback and further improve its service.
Alistair Ponton, Viewpoint managing director, says: “We’re really excited about developing our partnership with RBC and utilising their 12 years of experience and contacts within the construction industry.
“We already work with high profile companies within the building sector - such as Kier and Sheffield Homes - and would like to develop our client-base within this sphere, which RBC can obviously help with. We’re confident our quality service will see our business grow, which will allow us to invest in expanding our team of talented staff who challenge perceptions and excel in fulfilling employment.”
Recent research found that social enterprises are twice as confident of growth compared to typical small to medium enterprises (SMEs), with 48% of social enterprises saying they are positive about the future as opposed to just 24% of SMEs, according to The Social Enterprise Coalition’s State of Social Enterprise Survey 2009.
Viewpoint has offices in Leeds and Sheffield and is supported by the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB). This year the company was awarded the prestigious Social Enterprise Mark, which identifies it as trading for social and environmental purposes. The team was also awarded the Diversity Award at the Celebrating Construction in South Yorkshire 2009 Awards, promoted by the Chartered Institute of Building.
