Colin Jackson and Family Take Part in the London to Brighton Bike Ride for 2017

Colin Jackson and Family Take Part in the London to Brighton Bike Ride for 2017

On Sunday 18th June 2017, thousands of cyclists will be taking part in the British Heart Foundation (BHF) London to Brighton Bike Ride.

The annual fundraiser will set off from Clapham Common and wind its way through East Surrey to the seafront in Brighton – a route of 54 miles.

This year, Colin Jackson, Managing Director of RBC and his family will be taking part in this event in honour of Colin's father, who died a few years ago, on the anniversary of what would have been his 100th birthday and also their mother who would have been 98 this year. This race will be especially important for the Jackson family because Colin’s brothers will be travelling from Canada and Australia to take part in this very personal race. Colin’s parents met during a cycling event and cycling was a bit part of their early life together.  The aim of the Jackson family is to raise £1,500 for the British Heart Foundation.

The Jackson team will consist of: Colin Jackson, Michael Jackson (travelling from Canada), Stanley Jackson (travelling from Australia), Kate Jackson, Mark Jackson, Daren Jackson, two of Colin’s grandchildren – Daniel and Nathan, Colin’s Niece Beth (who is travelling from Australia) and Colin’s Nephew, Michael and family members Richard and Sarah

Colin uses his late father's 'Hetchins' road bike, that was specially made for his father in 1937. The bike was traditionally handed down from father to son with the strict understanding that it would never be sold. The bike was returned to Colin's father and he started using it again at the impressive age of 83. In 2005 he bequeathed the bike to Colin, when he decided that riding it on the streets of North London was a little unsafe.

Zero Carbon Homes 2016

New Announcement

Following RBCs recent seminars on the changes to the Building Regulations coming into effect in October 2015, and the planned changes to Approved Document L 2016 linked to 'zero carbon homes', the Government, in a major policy change, have just announced the scrapping of zero carbon homes for 2016.

This means that the planned changes for Part L 2016 have been dropped altogether, with both allowable solutions and tightening of energy efficiency standards not being progressed. The planned zero carbon requirement for non-residential buildings in 2019 have also been removed.

Housing Standards Review

Housing Standards Review

New Building Regulations - October 2015

The Housing Standards Review has resulted in a number of fundamental changes to the way in which local planning authorities are able to set planning conditions relevant to technical standards of new housing design.  The good news for designers and developers is that planning authorities will no longer be able to set their own individual standards for new housing, a new approach means that consistent technical standards will apply to new housing developments, wherever you are undertaking the work.

The Government have confirmed the Codes for Sustainable Homes has been withdrawn, and has published guidance for local planning authorities on setting planning conditions in relation to thermal performance and sustainability.
