West Court Barn, Hampshire
RBC are delighted to have been appointed to provide full Building Control services for the conversion of one of the oldest barns in the UK, which dates back to 1296 into a luxurious private residential dwelling, in Binsted, East Hampshire. The conversion has been sympathetically completed to an extremely high standard whilst maintaining all original heritage characteristics of the barn under close liaison with Conservation and Heritage. The barn which is a Grade 1 listed building consisted of a six bay double cart entry with a magnificent oak structure enclosing the cathedral type space.
The challenge was to convert the vast internal space into a luxury domestic residence without losing the character of the barn and without significantly affecting the historic fabric. A mezzanine floor was inserted into the end bays where the extra height meant bedrooms could be accommodated above and below.
